Abstract

Man and story have always been closely linked. Oriental Languages are replete with the art of narratives. Major languages of Pakistan such as Punjabi, Balochi and Sindhi also share great part of narrative literature. Pashto language too, is second to none in having narrative literature. Like other languages Pashto has also acquired its colour from oriental verse narratives. Pashto verse narrative are either translations of these oriental verse narratives of various Pakhtun poets have verified these oriental prose narratives but the fact remains that these stories have their origin in Persian and Hindi literature. The present article mentions those famous stories which are considered invaluable assets of oriental narrative literature. Apart from them the influence of the oriental narratives on the Pashto verse narratives has also been discussed.
