العبر في قول الإمام العقيلي ”فيه نظر“
Muslims scholars agree that after the Qur'┐n, the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the second of the two revealed fundamental sources of Islam. A ╒ad┘th is composed of two parts: the matn (text) and the isn┐d (chain of reporters). A text may seem to be logical and reasonable but it needs an authentic isn┐d with reliable reporters to be acceptable. In scrutinizing the reporters of a ╒ad┘th, authenticating or disparaging remarks made by recognized experts, from amongst the successors and those after them were found to be of great help. Examples of such remarks, in descending order of authentication are: "Im┐m (leader), ╓┐fi╘ (preserver)."thiqah" (reliable, trustworthy), "yukh═i’u” (makes mistakes),"╔a’┘f” (Weak), "matr┴k” (abandoned by the experts of ╒ad┘th),"kadhdh┐b” (liar), “k┐na ya╔a’u al-╒ad┘th” (used to fabricate a ╒ad┘th). Some comments and remarks made by experts in this regard however are not clear. One of these remarks “f┘hi na╘ar” has frequently been used by the well-known expert of ╒ad┘th, Ab┴ Ja’far Mu╒ammad al-‘Uqayl┘, the Im┐m. This research paper aims to provide explanation to this comment.
